Conversation

Conversation is a strand of Project X’s work which centres on learning, understanding and sharing knowledge of dance of the African and Caribbean Diaspora. Project X is working with the dance and performing arts sectors both locally and internationally to build a dialogue, working to develop perceptions and representation whilst championing a more holistic and empowering understanding of these rich, varied and infinite dance forms.

As well as regularly attending events including Serendipity’s LDIF and One Dance UK’s Re:Generations, Project X also curates events to open up this dialogue.

Our past Conversation activities have included:

Transformation, Embodiment and Survival Stretegies: The Dances of The African and Caribbean Diaspora in Scotland (2018) A lecture by researcher Ashanti Harris exploring the histories and legacies of African and Caribbean Diasporic Dance in Scotland

Project X Workshop at People Dancing International Conference, Glasgow (2017) A workshop with practitioners from the dance sector sharing some of our thinking around cultural identity and sense of place, voice and presence.

Project X Symposium: Lets Move to More Visibility (2017) A one-day symposium exploring how dance and the performing arts sector in Scotland can develop to have a greater representation and support of practitioners who identify as Black and/or People of Colour
